Random Mommy Thoughts

I wasn’t expecting to feel this way. I have a very full life. I’m busy. I keep myself busy. When my children are home, they both talk to me in unison about totally different things and expect me to answer coherently while doing three other things at the same time. But I miss them. I miss having a little hand in mine while I’m out doing my business. I miss having someone to talk to while I wander through the grocery store. I miss carrying someone around with their little arms slung around my neck. Their tiny fists clutching my shirt, my hair, my skin. I miss watching their little chubby legs pump up and down as they run faster and faster and faster away from me. I just miss them. I’ve always known growing up was inevitable, I just didn’t know it would affect me this way. Summer’s almost here and while the tiny fists and legs are gone, replaced by the constant talking, I am looking forward to having them home with me.

Then again, talk to me in September.

Testing, Testing, 1 2 3 Testing

I'm trying to figure out how to put a photo in the middle of a post. THat las tpost should have started with Thursday and ended with Monday but the zoo photos popped to the top.

I think this photo clearly depicts her relationship with her math book.

I got it to work though, didn't I? I actually had to edit the HTML. Makes me feel so smart. LOL

A special dinner and a trip to the zoo . . .

We took a little trip to the zoo on Sunday. It was a great day for it. The weather was not too cold but not too hot either. It only took us 35 minutes to get there. We were totally amazed. Traffic was unusually light. Buying the zoo membership was a good investment. It means we can head out there any time we want for a great day without blowing the bank. We met up with the Corey's and were able to wander around with them for a while. Of course, by the end of the day my foot was screaming at me. I've got my bone scan tomorrow and will be happy to finally know what's wrong with it and, hopefully, be on the road to recovery.

While we were at the zoo, we visited the new Stingray Bay where we were able to touch the stingrays. I have to admit I really didn't want to touch them, but since my children weren't afraid, I figured I had to do it. They felt like suede. Really soft but a little slimey. Some of them were quite social and jumped up toward your hands. They even pushed up against your hand like a dog or a cat does when you pet them. Very cool. Their barbs were trimmed to make them safe to touch. Meredith was happy to know there wouldn't be a repeat of the Steve Irwin incident.

On Thursday, Meredith cooked dinner. Yes she did. She made Sausage Subs with garlic bread, Garlic Mustard dip with raw carrots and chocolate fudge with ice cream for dessert. Yummy, yummy. The food was all quite delicious and she (and we) is (are) looking forward to when she can do it again. It certainly made my night a little easier.
Friday I ventured into Buffalo to go to a Creating Keepsakes Convention with my friend Sheila. Unfortunately when I mapquested it, it gave me directions to the same address in Lackawanna. Boy, you don't want to end up there at night. It was very creepy. We drove around and around trying to figure out where we were and where we were supposed to be. But of course, Dave saved the day, yet again! Luckily he was near the phone and was able to figure out for me where we were and where we needed to go. Apparently Mapquest isn't infallible. I didn't buy too much. A cute little bind-it-all machine which means I can make my own little spiral bound albums at home and some paper, ink and embellishments. I actually spent less than $100. A first for me!!!
Today I spent the day cleaning. I feel like I haven't been home since Thursday and the house reflected that. It's all clean and neat and tidy now. Aaaah.
Gotta go do my toes for my bone scan tomorrow.
Cheerio.

Another Weekend

On Saturday we did another garage sale with the Frain's. We sold a few more little things but still haven't gotten rid of the chairs that we really need to move out of the basement. After that Mer and I took a nice little bike ride down to Cobs and the Black Forest Bakery to pick up supplies for lunch. It is so nice to be able to go for a bike ride with her. She's really enjoying her bike and even though she's taken a couple of tumbles this year, they have not deterred her or made her afraid like they would have in the past. And I have to say I am loving my bike with it's big comfy seat, high handlebars and basket. I ride it all the time and even look forward to riding it. We had lunch then went to the Club to play tennis. Even though my foot hurt. I'm not ready to give everything up until I'm told I have to.

We went for yet another bike ride on Sunday to Gairloch Gardens with Isobel on the Trail a Bike with Dave. She needs to learn to ride!!

Later on Sunday, Meredith discovered a cookbook that Grandma gave her for Christmas last year. She made these delicious Snap Gingers all on her own on Sunday. They were delicious. I wish I could share one across the internet so you could taste. She was very proud of herself and only got the tiniest of burns on one of her fingers that she handled quite well. She's planning on making us dinner on Thursday so I'll post more about that at the time.

Not a great photo, but here we have 2 cats snuggled up together in one tiny little basket. I just love the way they rely on each other and even though they fight, we find them like this quite often. All snuggled up with their little paws around each other.

Yesterday it was over 30 degrees here and today it's down around 12 right now with a high of 14. Just bizarre. I'm going to have to run over to the school with more clothes for Isobel. She's wearing a light dress without anything on her legs.

More later .....

Figuring Things Out

A squirrel eating an apple on my back gate. Just a note: These photos were supposed to appear at the bottom of this post. Oh well. I'll figure that out tomorrow.

Meredith and Isobel on our Mother's Day boat ride.

Me on our Mother's Day boat ride.

Meredith on the boat ride, and ....

Isobel on the boat ride - she was the only one who didn't enjoy herself!

I am still working on getting this up and running. I managed to get the header done to my liking and hopefully within the next couple of days I'll get some digi pages up here as well as photos. I'm hoping to set up a little slideshow of my digi pages that will run continuously.

The highlight of my day was meeting Nic for tea. It's so nice to see her every week even if I do have to combine it with a visit to WeightWatchers. I must confess, I had a VERY bad week and did not weigh in this week. I ate my way (weigh LOL) through the week and was afraid. Hopefully I can get back on track this week and get back at it. Losing weight is so hard. I really didn't think that at 40, I'd be struggling with these issues. I think back when I was a young 'un (in my 20's) I figured people in their 40's had given up and just didn't care anymore. I have a lot of respect for the older ladies in the group who are still struggling and trying to get their act together. Anyway, back to Nic. I feel very blessed to have such a good friend in my life. She really is my life raft some days. I know she's going through a hard time right now and I hope that I am able to help in some way.

I'm going to try to post a YouTube video for my current favourite song. Let's see if it works.

Okay, I don't know how to do it but I can post a video of Isobel learning to ride her bike. It's not a great video but it's something. Here it goes: (hopefully!)

Well, it looks like it's there. I'll have to finish my post and come back later to see if I can access it.

Other than tea with Nic I went to the Volunteer Tea at the school, and did a special pizza lunch for the grade 5's.

Now I'm going to try to post a photo I took the other day. I think I'm going crazy. I take photos of little animals and flowers these days. I NEVER thought I would do that.

Photos are at the top. I think that's enough learning for one day.

First Entry

Isobel has a friend over and I'm just learning about blogging. I've got to take the friend over so this is really just a test to see if it all works out. I'll be back to do more later.
